Sygun Mines History The Scene Of Momentous Improvements In Mineral Dressing Of Ores Mineral Dressing Of Ores
The Sygun Copper Mine is one of North Wale's best visitor attractions. The mine is located just to the south of the village of Beddgelert in the heart of the Snowdonia National Park.
The opening of Sygun as a museum -- something which would have astonished the old miners -- is the latest consequence of this interest. Like many of its kind, Sygun was never much more than a failure, always living from hand to mouth in hopes of better times to come. Yet in its last revival, it rubbed shoulders with fame, being the scene of momentous improvements in a mineral dressing of ores, which were to spread across the world. And half a century later its abandoned mill-site was reconstructed as a town in China for a well-known film starring Ingrid Bergman.
