Rita A. Rooney has 40 years of professional nursing experience in a variety of healthcare settings. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing with honors from the University of Delaware in 1975. Rita received the Madeline McDowell Award for high competence in professional nursing at graduation and was inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society. In 1980, Rita earned a Master of Public Health degree from Johns Hopkins University with an emphasis on Healthcare Administration and Health Education. She received the Blue Pencil Award from the National Association of Government Communicators for the development of the Breast Cancer Patient Education Series in 1982. She was honored with an Exemplary Service Award from Georgetown University Hospital Healthcare Referral Department in 1998.
